| Patrocinio Reserve covers an area of 140 ha with a mosaic of different habitats, ranging in elevation from 750 to 850 m (2,460-2,790 ft). We are dedicated to the conservation of fragments of old growth broadleaf forest, and to the restauration of natural habitat. Since 1997 a total 20,000 trees has been planted. Our conservation efforts are sustained by income from the agricultural crops and the tourism program. A total of 10 families live in the reserve. Currently nine members of the community are involved directly in the Patrocinio tourism program as tourist guides, room attendants, cookers and waiters. The other community members are indirectly involved through their agricultural work. |

| The tourism program provides part of budget needed for the salary of our teacher for primary education, for school equipment, for educational trips of our school children, and for the attendance of our clinic. The tourism program offers opportunities to further applied training, augmenting the personal skills among the community members and consecuently improving the living standard. | |
