The Reserve

Patrocinio Reserve covers an area of 140 ha with a mosaic of different habitats, ranging in elevation from 750 to 850 m (2,460-2,790 ft). We are dedicated to the conservation of fragments of old growth broadleaf forest, and to the restauration of natural habitat. Since 1997 a total 20,000 trees have been planted.

Our conservation efforts are sustained by income from the agricultural crops and the tourism program. A total of 10 families live in the reserve. Both agriculture and tourism provide work to these families and also to temporal workers from other areas of Guatemala.
